Winter on the Farm

Slow to move chickens at the sight of the first snow.

All of the gardens have been put to bed and we are now resting our backs.  The work on the farm has been whittled down to chicken chores.  Such winter work is a nice break, it allows for time to relax, to plan for next year and get excited about the coming season.

Things that are in the works for next season include:

  • A NEW maple sugaring evaporator that can support more taps, more sap and more SYRUP!
  • MORE hens!  We will be expanding the flock to almost 200 chickens next year in order to supply a larger demand and sell at Crimson and Clover farm store in Northampton.
  • A BIGGER flower garden.  The flower garden will be tripled in size and will be managed by Alexis next spring.  Please let us know if you would like to order flowers for an event.
  • FRUIT, FRUIT FRUIT!  After moving to our new property on S. Shirkshire Rd. (and keeping the old on Hart Rd.) we now have Blueberries Raspberries, Blackberries, Currants and Concord Grapes — not to mention that we predict that next year will be a big apple year.  Expect to see such fruits at farmers markets and in the box share.

Stay tuned for more updates.
